SEOUL - PROSECUTORS have launched an unprecedented crackdown on South Koreans who secure positions with fake diplomas or certificates, officials said.
The Supreme Prosecutor's Office ordered prosecutors nationwide on Thursday to identify and punish offenders following a series of highly publicised scandals.
'Crackdowns on counterfeit goods are common but this is the first-ever campaign against counterfeit diplomas or certificates,' a spokesman for the Supreme Prosecutor's Office said.
The prosecutors will investigate faked academic and school records, plagiarism of theses and forged documents relating to certified tests.
The campaign, which is due to last until the end of this year, comes after celebrities from the arts, entertainment and education sectors were caught using fake diplomas and certificates.
